"The old does need to let go and fall away…but not in a ‘hands off leave it to them, but in a ‘how can we help you-what way do you see for humanity and how can we use our resources to help shape what you are growing toward’."

This is such an important part of all spiritual practice - how do we practice surrender while remaining engaged and proactive!

1)

I keep thinking lately of an old tree fallen in the forest and becoming the 'nurse tree' for a new generation.

It would be a mistake to look to the 'young' and leave them without leadership or wisdom. To look to them to 'save us'. It would be like leaving them without roots or a nurse tree for nourishment.

However the nurse tree does not allow new to grow unless it has died and fallen to the ground.

The old does need to let go and fall away...but not in a 'hands off leave it to them, but in a 'how can we help you-what way do you see for humanity and how can we use our resources to help shape what you are growing toward'.

The other thing to address is that there is a cohort that lies between the baby boomers and the boomer babies.

We have been functioning outside of the 'golden days' for a while and we, even though now mostly middle aged ( late 30's to very early 50's) have learnt to adapt to less than ideal social circumstances, we came of age in recession after all. The 'old' left us without an inheritance years ago. Ben Cameron is of that cohort. We are a 'transitional cohort' and in this time of transition there might be some useful tidbits to share.

You see the new is not necessarily 'young' and it might be a way to support the younger generation to let some of us who have been 'post boomer' for a while to share some wisdom that is not based on plenty or privilege, stability or opportunity...and has a little more than 'just a decade' to go.
