Oh yeah.... I saw on TV the other day a protestant fundo say that Christians are a persecuted group in the States... the interviewer was politely incredulous. I could not believe that direction was seriously being taken, especially considering how much religious fundamentalism is wedded to the GOP.

A few weeks ago I was a with a group of Christians and the word secular was used negatively. It was used as the OPPOSITE of religious. It was used to imply that secular was AGAINST religion. I was really very surprised by this.

I really do not think that anyone else thinks of it that way. It seems that the only people who beleive that a society being secular means a society being anti religious are the religious who believe society should be obviously religious. You just have to look at Turkey, or Holland or Norway..or Australia. These are secular countries and there is an enormous amount of religious freedom.

I would say that Christians would only have a problem with a secular society if they do not want to participate in it as part of it's social fabric.

Once again, the other day I heard from a person who has a spirituality but is not Christian, when we were talking about the struggle church has these days re. attendance. She said.." Christians think the world has left church behind; it is the other way around. Church has left the world behind. Church has rejected the world , so... why would we want to go where we have been rejected?"
