This is the day when the explosion of mystery unravels every category of thought, leaving us stunned into holy silence.

It is impossible to begin even to think about this day.

This is the day when the axis of the earth shifts back to its original design, setting human history spinning in the direction of life.

Today, against all expectation, innumerable particles of light pierce the horizon in the distance.

Today a woman carries precious impossible news of a new beginning.

This is the day when, without even the support of our hopes, light flashes outward, pushing back the darkness that had gripped the earth.

This is the day when the cracks that fracture the human condition, soften toward healing. Salvation has sprung from the tomb; creation has been reborn.

Today pries open the cold stone of our hearts to something deeper than the mind can conceive.

This is the day that summons from us no other response than the glad surrender of simple faith.

Today we see that the heartbeat of the universe is the power of love.

This is the day when life breaks through stone tombs and wooden doors. Barriers are no longer necessary, nor even possible. Love has shattered all boundaries and broken through all the resistance we had constructed against forgiveness and love.

Fear fades as the light of this new day begins to dawn. Today we gather without any need for self-constructed safety, confident in a power that is stronger than death.

Today dawns in every newborn’s first cry. Today is the day that surprises the air with the sweet fragrance of spring. Creation breathes again. Life stirs into action.

Today is the day if we stay awake we see that the deep purity at the heart of life is not extinguished. Violent voices do not have the final word. Tragedy, defeat, despair, and doubt are not the final chapter of this story.

Today dead hearts are revived through no conceivable power of their own.

The failure that held us in its cold grip has been tuned to a joyous song of victory. Shame has shed its filthy mantle. We are newborn from this day. Everything begins afresh.

We who only a day ago had so desperately lost our way have been found by the light. We have been located again in a landscape that it is possible to navigate with the tenderness that rose in that garden in which hope was reborn.

Today is the day surprising shoots of light escape through the cracks in our hearts. Today is the day we awaken in the dawn that restores the fullness of life to all of creation.

Today Christ is risen. The power of love Jesus that embodied in his physical presence transcends death. Life is reborn. Love lives in every human heart summoning us only to open and soften to the warmth of that Divine Presence who dwells in the mystery of this day.
