Tuesday 11:30 a.m. Clergy Conference Eucharist – homily The Rev. Rob Szo http://www.parishcs.ca/

Ministry is like a rugby scrum; sometimes it gets dirty.

Mark 9 – as ordained leaders we need refreshment and renewal which comes through the word.

We need to get away from the scrum occasionally. It is almost impossible to learn the deep things of the gospel when we are being jostled by the crowd.

Mark 9:31 – ‘The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again’ – this is the core teaching of Jesus crucified, died and risen. This is the one indispensable news. This is the news our culture desperately needs, whether it knows it or not. We need to bring this news to the world.

Ephesiasn 4:12 – “equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ” – putting this into practice involves a scrum. There is going to be bruising, but also joy.

We can be refreshed by the good news as we gather here.

The good news corrects our tendency to compete and to get off-message.

Jesus teaches us to teach the good news and to stay on-message.

Stick to the message given plainly in Scripture.

The Holy Spirit is there to restore our vision. In the power of the Spirit we preach Christ crucified. That’s the best foundation.

We’ve been called out of the scrum to read the good news. The good news is the only news that matters. Jesus calls us to help each other in this ministry.
