Yeshua says: “What no eye has seen,
and what no ear has heard, what no hand has touched,
and no human mind has conceived,
this I will give to you.”

Here is where peace resides, in this realm where “no eye has seen… no ear has heard… no hand has touched, and no human mind has conceived.”

As Jesus prepared his followers to confront the awful trauma of his physical departure he said to them,

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. (John 14:27)

The world tries to “give” peace by controlling events and seeking to make life run smoothly. But the world’s peace is always an illusion. There is no such thing as peace that relies upon human control. No matter how rich or powerful I may be, there are almost no parts of life in which I can reliably claim to be in control. In the realm of circumstance, the unexpected is always waiting to just around the next corner to upset our manufactured peace.

Paul held out the promise of a different peace describing a,

peace of God, which surpasses all understanding.

This peace Paul said,

will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)

This peace does not demand that life be a certain way. There is no power on earth that can destroy or undermine this peace. It is present in the heart that rests and trusts fully in the reality of love dwelling at the centre of the cosmos and living within the human heart.

There is no program that can make this peace happen, or produce it on demand. I can only open to this quality of peace.  In fact, it is never far away. I need only to turn within to that deep place of reverence and devotion to discover within myself that inner well-spring of life.

Jesus said,

whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. (Matthew 6:6)

The reward is my awareness of the Divine presence in the depths of my being. When I open to this awareness there is a quality of steadiness and rest that accompany me into whatever circumstances I may face in the fragile uncertainties on the surface of life.

SOUL: Stop – Open – Unburden – Listen

In the midst of turmoil and uncertainty, I choose to stop and open to the peace that dwells at the centre of my being no matter what storms may be raging on the surface.
