10 They stoop, they crouch,
and the helpless fall by their might.

11 They think in their heart, ‘God has forgotten,
he has hidden his face, he will never see it.’

Jesus might have heard these words of HP just before he said,

nothing is hidden that will not be disclosed, nor is anything secret that will not become known and come to light. (Luke 8:17)

Nothing I do, nothing I say, not even anything I think is ever totally “secret.” Later HP will write:

O Lord, you have searched me and known me.
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from far away.
You search out my path and my lying down,
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
O Lord, you know it completely.
(Psalm 139:1-4)

In some mysterious way, my attitudes, actions and thoughts are known. I am seen.

if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (I John 1:7)

To “walk in the light” is to live a transparent life, a life that aims to tell and live the truth, a life of honesty and sincerity. This is a high call and a great challenge. But anything less, any ways in which I seek to hide from truth or to excuse what appear to be small dishonesties, brings great pain, suffering and destruction into the world. I cannot afford to make allowances for even little lies in my life.

To live a truthful life starts with being willing to see the truth of my own life.

What am I trying to hide?  What am I unwilling to see?

Lord help me to “walk in the light,” living a life in which there is no need for me to hide anything.
