In these months of COVID almost everyone has lost something.
The cost of love is the inevitability of loss.
It is a harrowing experience to sit through seven episodes of the Netflix epic western “Godless.” It takes a strong constitution to stomach the violence and sadness of the chaotic shattered world the film portrays.
Remembrance Day is a good time to ponder loss and grief and to explore our own response to the inevitable pain that accompanies the often difficult realities of life.

In the 1940’s Nella Last was, what was then kown as a “housewife”, living in Barrow-in-Furness, England. Nella Last was, in most ways an unremarkable woman. But there was one thing about Nella Last that has caused her name to be remembered around the world since she died in 1968.
I don’t know if it is the building in which we are gathered, or the fact that we are here for the funeral of a grand gentleman who has affected our lives in so many ways. But, as we move through the service, I find myself caught in a dark malestrom of emotion.
Loss, resentment, and bitterness are an unholy trinity that poison many peoples’ lives.
